Plain dal

Plain dal


Ingredients:

Masoor dal    - 1 cup
Garlic  - 5 pods
Onion  - 2 small (1 small onion chop finely )
Tomato    - 2
Turmeric powder  - 1/4 tsp
Hot dry chillie    - 5
Curry leaves   - 7
Coriander leaves to garnish
Mustard seed   - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seed     -1/2 tsp
Asafoetida  powder  - 1/4 tsp
Oil   - 2 tsp
Salt to taste

Method:

  • Wash dal and tomatoes.
  • In a pressure cooker add masoor dal, 1 onion, garlic, tomatoes, turmeric powder and cook it till 2 whistle.
  • In a pan add oil , when the oil gets heated add mustard seed wait till it splatter then add cumin seed , finely chopped onion, curry leaves, hot dry chillie brake it into 2 and add asafoetida powder saute till onion turns brown .
  • Add this mixture to the dal, add water to make sambar consistency.
  • Add coriander leaves and serve. This will go very well with idly, dosa & plain rice.
  • Add ghee while serving.
