Ingredients:
Thuvar dal - 1 cup
Onion - 2 ( 1 onion chop finely for seasoning )
Garlic - 5 pods
Tomato - 2 nos
Brinjal - 3 nos
Drumstick - 2 nos
Small onion - 2 handful
Curry leaves - 10 nos
Coriander leaves little
Dhaniya powder - 2 tbsp
Chilli powder - 1-1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Tamarind lemon size
Asafotida powder - 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Feenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
Jeera - 1/2 tsp
Dry red chillie - 2 (whole )
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste

Method:

Dry red chillie - 2 (whole )

Method:
- In a pressure cooker add washed dal, garlic,onion, tomato, & asafotida powder and add water till dal covers and cook till 3 whistle.
- In a vessel add brinjal, small onion, drumstick, tamarind water, chillie powder, dhaniya powder, turmeric powder and cook till vegetables are 3/4 done then add salt and the cooked dal. Let it cook for another 5 min.
- If you find that the dal is very thick add little more water to give the sambar consistency.
- In a small frying pan add oil ,once the oil is heated add mustard seeds, feenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, finely chopped oinon, curry leaves,whole red chilli and sautee it till turns brown.
- Add it to the dal and garnish with coriander leaves.
- This will go very well with white rice,idly & dosa
Tips: 1. Soak tamarind in warm water for 10 min. It will be easier for you to squeeze.
2. If you add curry leaves stem to the cooking vegetables it will give you a nice aroma.Before serving discard it.
